Pretty twisted logic you're using to rationalize your actions.
Sometimes a small lie is the better option, when it is innocent in nature. "What did you get me for my birthday?" "Nothing" .. No harm done there when you give the person a gift. Lies like this are completely innocent and harmless.
"Are you having an affair" .. "No, of course not"... This is a selfish lie. You're not protecting them, you're protecting yourself. Now if the truth is ever found not only do they have to deal with the fact that you betrayed them. They now have the joy of having to suffer with the fact you cannot be trusted on any level. Therefore ultimately making them second guess everything you've said or will say.
Lying is almost always the wrong thing to do. Very few exceptions to this rule and unlikely you'll comprehend that.

My incomplete opinon..
The truth only hurts for the moment and the lie hurts for life..you mostly. If people can't accept the truth be told, then they are only hurting themselves by not accepting their own truths in, of, and about themselves. Of course they should already know the truth of the matter at hand. It's almost always instinctual.
however, If you lie, no matter what, you are the one who is getting hurt by deceptions and the reputation you are creating in, of and for yourself. Anyone and everyone expects to be lied to these days and you are no exception. The exception is not to be the liar. Then you have truely succeeded in something in life. Lying is of the Devil and all know when you tell a lie, either now or later(they will know)
It's your choice..

There are ways of telling people the truth most of the time without being hurtful to them. Honesty in these cases is the best policy.
The big negative involved in lying is trust. If you were to lie to me constantly, how could I ever trust anything you had to say to me, even if it were actually true? I would always question that.

Small lies lead to bigger lies and eventully you will get caught in " your web of lies". I say be truthful whenever possible, and if you feel the truth may hurt......then just avoid an answer.

Doesn't think lying is ever appropriate in a relationship. The only time I lie is if I am confident I never want to take to someone again.

it really depends on what your lying about.
if someone asks if they look bad and you say no but they really do, thats just respectful and its fine.
if someone asks you if you said something bad about them, you should probably tell the truth because if they find out that you did and lied about it, it could tear apart a friendship forever.

No, it is never ok to lie, how are you going to earn people's trust if you lie all the time, you will get caught sooner or later and people will get hurt...

It really depends what you are fibbing about. You have to be honest about STD's, if you have children from other relationships, past debt. You don't have to let it all hang out for a lot of other stuff.
