I get several mesages but the one that has me lost is that I have a "spooler" thats not operating. What is it? how does it work? and most importantly how do I fix it?

yup ...
I Assume its a Win XP...
Click Start and Go to RUN ...Type Services.msc and press Ok
Look For Print spooler on the rt pane......
Make sure the service status : is Started and the startup type is automatic...if not restart the service and make the startup type as automatic....if it does not work do the following steps....
1. Click the Start button on the desktop
2. Click Run
3. Type in REGEDIT
4. Click on HKEY_LOCAL _MACHINE
5. Click on System
6. Click on Current Control Set
7. Click on Services
8. Click on Spooler
9. Click on Depend On Service on the right hand side
10. This should open a Edit Binary Value window
11. Delete the rows corresponding to LexBces only and then select OK
12. Reboot the PC

Try uninstalling then re- installing the printer that should fix it.
