No I don't think this is normal. I am 20 weeks pregnant and have only gained 2lb.

This is my third pregnancy in 4 years and I am 10 weeks pregnant. With both of my other pregnancies, I gained 10 pounds in the first trimester as well and was super-depressed about it--and it looks like this one is going to be the same! UGH! I didn't eat too much either (and was even sick most of the time)....but, for some reason that is how much my body seems to gain. Are you underweight? I am 5'4" and (was) 110 pounds. I gained a total of 40 pounds for the other pregnancies and the doctors were fine with the amount since I started a little bit on the small side. I know how depressing it is to gain the weight. (Trust me, I feel like a human balloon. How can my body gain and lose so much weight so many times in a row?) The good news is that it will come off. Also, even though you and I gained more than others do in the first trimester (I used to cry when I saw that most people gain 0-3 pounds), it does seem to level out by the end. I hope this helps. You are not alone!

I am 5'3" and normally weigh about 128lbs. I am currently about 16 weeks pregnant... and while I am showing a little bit... (I notice - but I don't think a stranger would) ... I have not gained a pound.
I don't work out ... I do work all day and go to school all night (my days are about 16hours) ... and I have not really changed my eating habits - other than cutting out the junk - and cutting down on caffiene.
I went to the doctor last friday - and they sorta gave me dirty looks when they weighed me... so I would say that you are fine... it will probably even out by the time you are 20 weeks or so.
Good luck :) and Congrats :)

First...you might not want to work out "hard" that may be stressing your body into doing weird things with your already messed up hormones....Just a thought...my wife gained a ton of weight with our last son and the doctor kept telling her to eat right...but we were eating mostly fruits and veggies and chix and not in large amounts. We also have a friend who had her thyroids get screwed up by pregnancy and now her body won't let her lose the weight.

I would have to say no. You might want to have your Dr schedule you for an ultrasound to make sure you are not having twins. Remember you are to eat healthy balanced meals. Just because you are pregnant doesn't mean you have to eat for two. It means you have to consume just a few more like 300 calories in the first and second trimester a day. Hope this helps!

Do you have the WIC program in your area? They have a nutrientionist there that can help. If not then I would talk to your doctor about your concerns and he can probably give you good and healthy advice. I wouldn't exercise too much because depending on what you are doing, it may not be a good thing. I know walking is healthy though during pregnancy.

I would say not normal. You shouldnt even be showing yet. Don't be depressed...and don't work out TOO hard. You will lose the weight AFTER the baby is born. Take care and good luck.

Go see your midwife and ask for an early scan, you should be due one around now anyway. It could be an abnormal amount of fluid around the baby or maybe multiples. Are you in maternity clothes yet ?
