I am not hyper-sensitive like you. But I still try to be as honest as possible and most people admire and appreciate that. Also, am am a bad liar so when I do lie people can tell. I do however, occasionally, "extend" the truth when trying to spice up a story or something at lunch time with co-workers. And sometimes I find it necessary to NOT tell the whole truth. So I am, in fact, not lying but rather, withholding the truth - which isn't really lying.

It IS the best policy. You can't go wrong with the truth. The trouble is, some people aren't ready to realize and accept the truth, so they lash out at you when you speak it.
My BFF - her husband left her almost 2 solid years ago. She is extremely bitter and angry and is very committed to hanging on to those two emotions. So the other day she tells me all the BS she tried to put him through and how it backfired on her. And I told her "I Know it's hard to let go of that anger, but it's not hurting him, it's only hurting you." She completely lost her mind that I said that to her. But it is the truth.
Anyway, this is just one example, but there are many. I prefer to live an honest life and that includes trying my best to be honest with myself regarding my mistakes, my need to let go of things, etc.
What you'r speaking of - truth in misunderstandings, that applies too. Yes, honesty is always the best policy.
Good Luck!

You've answered your own question. Honest is always the best policy. Even if telling the truth might get you in trouble, is it worth your integrity to lie?

Yes it is. With yourself first, and also with others. It also helps to not ask a question if you're not prepared for the answer (see honesty w/self).

Yes. But this adage shouldn't be used as an excuse for being hurtful or disrespectful. =)

No. The statement is wrong because through honesty we never get any thing. But you can behave like honest with the people you like most but never be HONEST!!!!!
