No, not all gold has a hallmark. I bought lots of gold in Turkey that did not have a hallmark on it but it was 18k gold. It is not hard to tell the diff. A little trick. If your a female and you where foundation make-up, if you take a piece of gold and rib it on your make-up it will make a slight black streak because gold is so soft.

All gold is not marked. Most will be. There was a problem a few years ago where gold electroplate was being marked as 10 or 14 K but did not have G.E. (Gold Electroplate) stamped on it coming in from other countries. It is now illegal to import such marked gold. There is still some jewelry around like this, so be careful. Most reputable jewelers are OK to buy from. Sometimes the markings are removed during sizing. This happens more often in rings.

If you think you have a piece of gold that is not marked, take it to a pawn shop or a jewelry store. They can test it. They might charge you. I work in a pawn shop and we don't. No harm in asking.
