Yes, he did get lost and fell in love with himself. Book ten, "Crossroads of Twilight" was perhaps one of the hardest books I have ever read, but I got through it. I am presently in the process of re-reading the books in preparation of reading book eleven, "Knife of Dreams."

I have heard that that book has more action and Jordan learned his lesson.

Jordan has a fatal disease. However he is getting treatment and it is going EXTREMELY well, better than expected. He should live long enough to finish the series and perhaps even a full life. However the treatments are debilitating so he is writing at a slower pace. See Jordan's blog for the whole story:

The books have slowed to a glacial pace with 400 pages needing to explain away 1 day of action. Now Robert Jordan has a terminal disease, so it is unclear if the series will ever be finished. I'm glad I also quit after book 9 or 10.

Ya know I read the first nine books of the series and it occurred to me that the series was being stretched out just because Robert Jordan and or his publisher wanted to make as much money as possible. I found that to be insulting. So i quit reading the series.
There were plot points from book three and four that after nine books he didnt bother to explain.
I think that Robert Jordan (and ive heard this from people that have met with him or communicated with him) is an arrogant writer who does not care about his fans at all.
Good luck with that.
