I just read the book for the first time, brilliant, brilliant story. I can see why is it a classic. Im a poly science student and that was the best description of anarchist communism I have ever read, its so applicable to other countries as well and it really makes you think about the whole ideology it a different but simplified way.
Anyway what did you think about the book?
(This isnt homework help, I am just interested)

I think Animal Farm is brilliant. It is sooo sad when the Proletariut Horse character is taken away and I was actually angry.
By the way this story was written to depict Communism and show the inherit hypocrisy of Communism.
So ignore anyone saying that it's not...

Animal Farm was not about anarchism or communism, in reality. Orwell was really poking fun at the English class system, and the way that ALL political systems tend to say one thing, then do another. Hence, "Some Animals Are More Equal than Others." That's not a Communist idea! Communism, as a philosophy, looked at all people as equal, but, in reality, only elected officials got to enjoy the spoils, while the people starved. In that aspect, maybe it was a about Communism. Anarchism, on the other hand, is meant to be a form of social government, where people, not central governments, are the decision makers and power brokers.

I loved it! Only read it a few years ago for the first time. It was banned from the school reading list for some reason or other, just the year I would have read it. Found it in an op shop & decided to have a go. I've re-read it at least 3 or 4 times since then. And it's a great pop-culture reference: everybody seems to understand when I say "..but some are more equal than others.."

It's a while since I read it but I really enjoyed the interplay between all the animals. It's amazing how George Orwell could create such a microcosm to represent a political model in such a way. If you've not already done so, you should also read 1984 by Orwell and Brave New World by Aldous Huxley.

It's a great, great classic, one of the greatest satires since Gulliver's Travels. Not merely a satire on communism, but on what the corruption of power seems to do with noble social ideaologies of all kinds - including democracy. Look at the United States, and the world at large, and how the idea of corporations, which has driven so much wealth creation, has led to domination by "the animals more equal than others". So it's a satire on human nature. By the way anarchy, the ultimate freedom of the individual, is the reverse of communism, but leads to equally disastrous outcomes. Life's more complicated than formulas.

where you got the idea it was about communism escapes me. it was not about communism, but about the foundations of controlling others, whether it be in a dictatorship, a communist nation, or a religious organization. it is about controlling the actions of others for a greater good, a euphemism for being a dictatorial leadership which forces the citizenry to be conformist to the ideals as stated by the leadership, not the individual.
remember, orwell was a political satirist, much as marx was a political economist. they were compparing what they saw against what they thought it should be.
when you read his 1984, you'll see how he is looking at governance and what he was seeing in the world of his time and the direction it was seemingly taking.

I found the book to be very interesting. I loved
the fact that the book was told from the animals point of view. I also loved the way the animals took on human characteristics but not beyond what
that animal was capable of.
