I was moaning about needing a face lift etc, to hubby. He said," I don't understand you there's nothing wrong with you, there's a woman at work who's horrible but really loves herself, and if you stood next to her, you would look absolutely gorgeous. Well, he couldn't see that he hadn't actually complimented me at all. In fact I even found it funny in the end. I'm not being oversensitive am I? How would you have perceived this 'compliment'?

We men are great at sticking our feet in our mouths. I've done this to my wife before, seriously trying to give her a compliment. She laughed and said "oh well that's real nice" "think about what you just said". Luckily my wife has a good sense of humor and knows that I adore her so she knows how my mind works.....or doesn't work sometimes. I think he was trying to be sincere but it just came out sounding the wrong way. Forgive him, give him a hug and thank him for at least trying. It's more than what some men do.

I don't think it was really meant as a compliment. More like a reality check.
There probably isn't anything wrong with you. Everyone ages, gets wrinkles, sags and bags.
And everyone gets tired of hearing moaning, whining and griping after a while.
And if you were fishing for a compliment, you were using the wrong bait.

Men, aren't they just the best!!! Its the sort of comment Id expect from my other half. Go with the flow........ tell him there's a really fat bloke where you work and if hubby stood next to him it'd look like he had a six pack!

Sounds like maybe instead of a facelift, you might need to get some professional help to build your self-esteem. You know, to make the inside as beautiful as the outside.

Im purely attempting to get as many thumbs downs and be as unpopular as feasible. placed on it as a badge of honour. besides I wouldnt want everyone in this dialogue board agreeing with something i mentioned besides. Its kinda like the Twilight Zone right here...and prefer eco-friendly Day says, "I wanna be the minority I dont want your authority Down with the ethical majority reason i wanna be the minority" they're the words i want inscribed on my grave gravestone thingy...

Well I don't think it sounded so bad. What do you expect? You say you were "moaning about needing a face lift etc...." What do you want him to do? If you feel that badly about yourself, do something about it. Don't expect other people to do it for you.

I would have taken it at face value (pun not intended) but then again I am a bloke. His sentiments were good it's just the wording that could be misconstrued.

lol - at least u get compliments:- however disguised they are. i don't think it's anything to worry about hun, he thought he was being genuinely complimentary. it's just a man thing.
i'd have just smiled, said thankyou, given him a kiss and put salt in his next cup of tea "accidently"

You ought to smack him upside his head! Ha,He didn't mean it the way you perceived it! It's just one of those dumb things how we try to say something nice but seems to always make things worse. My wife would have never thought anything about it!

I think he meant it as a comlliment. My partner says similar things and then can't understand why I am no thrilled. It's just there typical bumbling way.
