To not get depressed, you gotta be doing the right stuff.
I have gone thru a lil depression and ive noticed that the moment i help others with their problems and focus on doing the right things , being a nice person etc, standing by my principles, ive learnt to overcome depresion.
Make sure you do things that make you happy
Music helps too.
Try to have some influences in life - could be a person you like or any one.

Depression can be a result of several things. I am not a doctor or a psychiatrist, but I have experience because several members of my family have depression. Depression can be chemical and hereditary, but it might just be a result of boredom and knowledge of things that exist in our world today that are depressing. I would suggest getting involved in some activity that is beneficial to society. Help someone that is less fortunate. Work at a homeless shelter or at a food distribution center for needy folks. Working toward making other people's lives more livable seems to aid in depression. Take up a hobby or a sport that involves being outside. Sometimes being cooped in a house all the time can rob our joy from us. Essentially, find something like a higher power to gain strength from. I find strength when I am depressed through faith in God. If you can go without the antidepressants then do it, but not without a doctor's recommendation. Ultimately, seek the medical advice of a professionaly that can diagnose your feelings with better knowledge than my suggestions. Exercise is definately beneficial and releases chemicals in your mind and body that are known to defeat depression. I am in the military and know that this will benefit you in many ways, exercise that is. Also, when you enter the military, you are asked a series of questions regarding your mental health. Depression isn't a bad thing, but if it persists after doing exercise and helping other people and living a good life and doing the right things, than maybe the medications are what you need.

Mate, i have depression for more than a decade now... There is no way to completely get rid of it. There are always certain "switches" that put you back in this melancholic mood. No matter what drugs you take (which only work in heavy states of depression btw) or how much you excercise nothing takes it away. Just make sure you live without stress and as less anxiety as possible.
My opinion, avoid the military. Too much stress involved, especially if you make it with bootcamp and get deployed. You might get yourself or someone else hurt this way....

There are many benzo's and antidepressants that can relieve the SYMPTOMS of the illness. I know it might seem daunting but try to book an appointment with a GOOD shrink, many will just ask a few questions and send you off with a prescription. See if you can find a good pyschiatrist, talk to him/her about how you feel, think, behave etc, try to give as much info as possible and the doctor will probably prescribe a suitable medication and may suggest getting some CBT which is more successful in 65% of cases. Medication may not be the answer and maybe there are other environmental factors that are causing you to feel like sh!t. Sounds to me like you have G.A.D (generalised anxiety disorder) Don't be ashamed to go to a shrink. Would you rather be miserable and stay in your rut or look for the help and get yourself back on track, get you happy, confident, successful

it dont seems to be a permanent situation so try to look it in one ot this 2 ways:
1. are you realy "depressed" or just sad, if only sad then ask you self why, its a human condition being sad.not a disease.
2. you are really depressed and inactive (to much for to long time) try see it as a resource, a capacity and not a disease.
if this 2 approaches dont helps get medicine.
so what you need to do is think this over careful.

diet, exercise, and perhaps some supplementation. that's a good start. i have details if you want them.
the stress of bootcamp or of being deployed would likely be too much for me, though, even with all my strategies. i would become unstable, if not full on depressed.
