School uniforms mean that everyone looks alike, nobody is singled out as being less well dressed etc. Students can identify with each other and feel a sense of belonging, a little like following a favourite sports team. It can make students feel a sense of pride in their school and students may feel representative of the school while wearing uniform which leads to more responsible behaviour. Hope you do well!

well, uniforms also creates equality... equality between children from different social group; poor children and rich children. a poor kid doesn't have to feel put down by the other rich kids, they don't have to feel they are below them in any way. At the school everyone is the same. UNIFORM....
Hope this helps, Good luck with your debate

I agree with Carrie W. I quite liked the whole school uniform thing when I was young. Boys looked smart, whilst the girls looked kinda cute (they had kilts). Plus everyone is the same so the kids with rich parents didn't stand out from the kids with nothing. A long standing tradition that shouldn 't change.

it reduces bullying, if everyones wearing the same thing they cant bully people for not being able to afford the latest things... gives pupils a sense of belonging/fitting in... helps identify pupils truanting/ messing about outside the school building.... pupils can represent their school and build up a good reputation for it.... u dont need to worry about getting it messy, its only a uniform....when u get to S6 you can jazz it up with badges etc....hope these help good luck if run out of things to say if the opposing have their uniform on question their motives....

Although the following website arguments against school uniforms, you should be able to use the counterarguments (on the left side) to get you started:

If you want a more academic approach to this topic, read: http://www2.selu.edu/Academics/Education/EDF600/swartz.htm
Finally, here's a newspaper article about it:

it also stops bulling someone who doesn't own named gear, because every one is dressed the same so therefore equal, it encourages good dicipline outside of school grounds because they can be identified by their uniform if they do any thing naughty

Check with your teachers. How many of them like uniforms? How many of them agree with your motions.
