Certain cliches when I hear them make we want to scream, especially when the person using them thinks they're being clever. A couple I particularly loathe are - "ball park figure" and "flag up". "Flag up" seems to be a great favourite of a lot of people at the moment, as is "too difficult to call".

I always believe in using horses for courses as basically I am on my own at the end of the day. Once I reach the end of the day I will have a window of opportunity so that you will know where I am coming from and (this is a new one coming along nicely) we will get closure.
Just a few of the ones I hate as they are often, as a previous answer has said, said by people that think they sound clever and modern. Most of them were 20 years ago.
Have a happy and blessed Easter.

Well when all is said and done you need to be pro-active. Don't drop the ball because the buck has to stop somewhere. I'm just not able to get a seamless integration here without going past my tipping point so I'll just have to hold my horses and wait for some kind of breakthrough!

I've never heard 'flag up', but I think some of them are quite funny. "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth", "A stitch in time saves nine" and "That's just how the cookie crumbles" are examples of this. In my opinion, things like clichés are what makes the english language so diverse and original!

The one I particularly hate at the moment is, "It's a game of two halves" (seldom used in a sports context!) and "tomorrow is another day."

i dont really mind cliches what i really hate is when someone uses the phrase 'i know its such a cliche' or something similiar before they use a cliche!!!! talk about irritating. "i know this sounds like such a cliche but it was love at first sight" imagine if we used a phrase like that in front of everything we we're doing/saying!!!! i'm typing, i know im typing, i'm typing a sentence, i'm writing.....

I don't like cliches. They're too overused.
