I heard on a show that you shouldn't give babies tap water. I assume it means babies under 1 year, as the baby talked about was 10 months. Is this true, or not?

Just be safe and give the little one filtered or bottled water.
I normally just diluted his formula or added some pedialite to the mix to make it a better drink. No cow's milk till later as well. No interstitial enzymes to break it all down.

Also, Babies under one, drink/eat- so thirst is also hunger, just not the screaming "I'm starving" thing yet. Assume, that when ever you give him anything at all (liquid) it needs to be considered nutritional as a meal or snack until 18 months old.

Best wishes.

I have never given my son bottled water, gee, for all we know that IS tap water.....!
Anyway, in response to your question, I wouldn't give bubs tap water yet, especially as water pipes have various minerals that can go into the water and affect bubs a lot more harshly than it would us. I always boil the water for my one year old for anywhere between 1 to 5 minutes, let it cool, then pop his water is his own special jug in the fridge (or leave it out covered on your bench) and make all his drinks and bottles from that.

You should have your tap water checked there are a few things in it that aren't good for babies, I always use bottled water, but like my mom has told me since my baby boy was born 18 months ago they didn't have all of this purified water 20 or 30 years ago so we drank tap water and we still made it and are healthy.

I am sure I won't get a thumbs up for this answer and I do not care if others do not approve of what I say.

What do you think mothers gave their children 20 years ago?
Do you think that 20 years ago people sat around buying bottled water for their children?

Did your mother care 20 years ago that you ate dirt at 5 years old? Did she care that you ate cat food or dog food?

Did you eat sand as a kid?

Listen, people freak out about the stupidest things when you have a kid. They act like they know better than you (the parent) know.

Whoever made this stuff up about not giving your kids tap water was a moron.

If your baby was hungry while you were on a trip and the only thing you could get them was tap water would you make your child starve?

It is best to heat the water before giving it but it is so stupid to think that you can't give your baby tap water that people have been drinking for years. Doesn't your city test your tap water to make sure it is good enough for drinking? -----------------------
The person who posted this question sent me a mail telling me that water is not as good as it used to be 20 years ago. ----------------RE:Tap Water
You sent me a mail telling me that tap water isn't as good as it was 20 years ago.

Don't things usually improve with time?
Did the water all of the sudden get contaminated with something?

Do people in Africa go out and buy their babies bottled water?

Do you think that people in third world countries should recieve packages of bottled water for their children just because they can't afford it themselves?

Have you consulted a doctor and asked him if you should be giving your baby bottled water?

How do you know someone didn't spit in your bottled water right before they put the top on it to seal it up and sell to you?

Does the water say on the bottle 'sterilised water'?

Did you know that it is better to allow someone to build up am immunity to something rather than to clean everything hospital style. If a child grows up in a hospital style environment their immune system never developes properly and they can become sick later in life.

I worked in daycare centers for years(in the 90's) and we gave babies tap water all the time. It wont hurt them at all in fact bottled water doesnt have to meet any standards so if your bottled water isnt filtered its probably worse than tap water. Also if you check bottled water labels its just re-filtered tap in most cases. I agree w the poster who said that thats what we all got as children, as did our parents and we are fine. Our grandparents most likely drank tap or well water and they lived too~! You think 100 years ago anyone had purified water and yet they were healthier than any of us!

i gave my babies tap water to mix there formula but if u do decide on bottled water discuss with ur pediatrician because bottled water has no flueride in it and i think they need a lil bit of this to help there teeth come in healthy. there is special waters out there with flueride added...kids waters and nursery waters...good luck

i guess its important to let the new born to settle in his/her new environment first so its important to take all the possible precautions at first and then gradually get her into drinking normal tap water if its found to be suitable. You could get the water tested first. My friend who works for a well know water company says nobody at work drinks tape water they all use mineral water at home and work because they know how dirty the pipes are but we dont and we are fine. Its all about building immunity
