I have travelled, started a new job, moved in with my best mate, got a motorbike, new car, all this in 5 months after he dumped me with this reason "i have been unhappy in the last few weeks, I don't know why, but I know that I don't feel the same say about you" and vanished.

He confessed that it was a mistake that he was just confused and scared and thought that breaking up was the easiest thing to do to avoid the problem of him being "unhappy" for some reason, is this believable

Sounds like he wanted to have a fling as was confident you would be so crushed you would be waiting with open arms when he came back. Congrats on moving on so well! A lot of us have trouble doing so. It could be too that he thinks you are much more interesting now that he see's you as your own person instead of his girlfriend. Either way, glad to hear you are doing so well. Living well IS the best revenge!

He was probably jealous of something. Now that he sees you have moved on and have being doing well for yourself, he wants you back and wants those "things" as well.
Keep kicking him to the curb. You don't need a guy who is going to be that way to you. Ever.

he realized though all those time without you makes him incomplete that is why he is now coming back to you.
he truly loves you, theres no connection from things you earned materially.
just be thankful because in a short period of time you gained those things. be proud, dont be affected. - if you are, you still love him then win him back.

He just playing mind games and He didn't realize how good of a person you are for him. Just tell him "it's too late for apologies, you had chance to you're get with me" etc.
