Memory would be my first upgrsde!

You're going to want a Gig if you eventually upgrade to VISTA Premium or Ultimate!

For a start your memory is well below the standard of even basic machines these days, you should try and upgrade it to at least 1 gig or ram.
open your pc tower ( disconnect it firts of course!) and try to find the memory stick(s) on the motherboard. they are about 5 to 6 inches long. push back the retaining clamps and gently pull it out of the slot.
Take this to any local PC dealer and ask for an upgrade to match your type of memory. This should cost you no more than around £50.
Bang it back in and you should see the difference straight away with your PC running much faster.

As to your online gaming a 128 mb graphics card should be ok as long as it has a good spech.
Im running an NVIDIA 6600 gt 256mb graphics card and this is probably about average these days, I paid £80 for this and it can easily cope with all the recent games.

Also try and shut down as many other programs as you can when you go online. Look in your system tray (bottom right of windows screen).

Good luck!

You're processor is fine. Try increasing ram to 1 gigabyte and get at least 256 meg vid card.

PC problems.

Try this:
1. Start button.
2. Run.
3. In the box type chkdsk /r
4. Answer yes when prompted to allow the utility to run on next boot.
5. Restart computer.
6. Take a break and let the program work. It will take a while but it's well worth the time and trouble.

Defrag your hard drive once in a while

Use either a software or hardware firewall.

that all depends on what ganes your wanting to play. some games are more complex than others and require different machine specs to run...

the most probable cause for your computer slowing down is that those viruses that you have mentioned could well have spread to the bios, so your probably looking at getting a new motherboard and if this is the case then you really should get rid of that crappy sempron and go with an athlon 64 or core2duo chip, budget chips aren't designed to run complex sequences of code like games, just deal with basic office tasks and small amounts of multimedia...

as for the video card then 128 is fine depending on the model of it. anything less than a nvidia 6600gt or ati 9800 radeon pro then your better upgrading. have a look at the nvidia 7600gt/atix1600xt or above and you should be absolutly fine for online gaming...

remember that gfx memory doesn't mean a great deal, its the gpu and memroy clock speeds that determine the performance and anything more than 256mb is just overkill on gfx cards...

Based on your specs, this PC is NOT capable of Gaming.

To resolve all other issues, do a "Windows Clean Install" (Google for it).

If XP, you need at least 512MB RAM.
