Another idea is promo work great money and all you have to do is smile! I still do this every weekend throughout the summer whilst working full time in the week, let me know if you need any contact numbers.

Good luck! x

You could scan through the recruit section of the newspaper for any jobs available and see which one is your cup of tea. There are many other alternatives to waitressing for a student. Such as telemarketeering( selling products over the phone), which pay a decent basic pay plus commission. Also, salesgirl jobs, and you can try out giving out phamplets for advertising companies, part time tutors, childcare centre guardians etc. Since the point of getting a job is mostly for making money, why not try making your own handicrafts or pastries at home and selling them online or through friends, great and fun way to make money and get a sense of satisfaction!

Work behind a bar.. preferably a student bar or a pub popular with students. The money is just as crap as working in a shop but the social aspect is much better.

Maybe working in a large chain store starting with a clerks job. If you are really good then you might get promoted to a supervisor and up to management level. Most of those stores have training programs so you can get the higher position and that brings you higher pay.
Good luck.

there are others:

...you could work in a retail shop part-time.
...you can do tutorials.
...as a receptionist for costumer services.
...what exactly is your field of study? you can use that for freelancing.
...try the government/labor department. they have programs that cater to working students.
