What frequency is allocated to GSM/CDMA when we start dialing a number?

Prior to pressing SEND to send a dialled number, the phone has acquired a channel based on the coverage of the cell sector in question. Once a voice connection is required, time slots are assigned in GSM, while a pseuorandom code is assigned in CDMA, to ID the phone-cell site path.
