Talk with your doctor and let him/her know, but also try eating high fiber foods, like cantelope or other melons - used to work great for me, and drink lots of water. Good luck.

If it's any consolation, constipation is a common problem during pregnancy. One culprit is an increase in the hormone progesterone, which slows the movement of food through your digestive tract. And the problem may be compounded later in pregnancy by the pressure of your growing uterus on your rectum. Iron supplements can make constipation worse.

What can I do about constipation?
Here are some tips for preventing and easing constipation:
• Eat high-fiber foods such as cereals, whole-grain breads, and fresh fruits and vegetables every day. Add a couple of tablespoons of unprocessed wheat bran (available at health food stores) to your cereal in the morning and follow it with a glass of water.

• Drink plenty of water — at least six to eight glasses a day. A glass of fruit juice every day, especially prune juice, can also be helpful.

• Exercise regularly. Walking, swimming, riding on a stationary bike, and yoga can all help ease constipation and leave you feeling more fit and healthy.

• Listen to your body. Never put off going to the bathroom when you feel the urge.

• Ask your healthcare provider about taking an over-the-counter fiber supplement or switching to an iron supplement with less iron.

You can use Isabgol, which is derived from a tree husk called Isabgol. Dabur Isabgol is the best, which I have come across so far. It has no side effects.

The other ways to counter Constipation is as below;

Eat a variety of foods, especially beans, bran, whole grains, and fresh fruits and vegetables.

Drink plenty of liquids.

Exercise regularly.

Don't ignore the urge to have a bowel movement.

Understand that normal bowel habits are different for everyone.

If your bowel habits change, check with your doctor.

Most people with mild constipation do not need laxatives. However, doctors may recommend laxatives for a limited time for people with chronic constipation.

Medicines that you take for another problem might cause constipation.

Oh im sorry to hear this! Im 32 weeks pregnant and still have this problem! Now the # 1 honest to god thing that helped me, was drinking more water. That helped a ton. And taking more fiber. That really works too! Helps keep you regular. And you can always get a laxative, but ask your doctor which kind he recommends. I wouldnt try prunes. It will help, but usually turns it into diarreah! NOT FUN! lol. I hope ive helped, here is a website that might do some good to look at too. Good luck, an congratulations! Feel free to keep in touch!

Try to keep urself as hydrated as possible. Drink lots of fluids like water, juice and soups.... and eat food with high fiber content like salads, fruits and vegetables. Also if possible, get ur hands on some good and healthy vegetable juices. Veggie juices provide u with the fluid as well as the fiber u need for good bowel movement. Do some light exercises, without stressing urself. A regular healthy diet along with moderate exercise or regular walk can help regulate ur system.
Wish u a happy pregnancy!

I can't speak for everyone, but I had horrible constipation in early to mid pregnancy. The best natural way I found myself to help it was by eating pasta. I would have a bowel movement withing 3 hours everytime. But that is just me.
Also pasta contains a lot of the carbs and fiber you need daily during pregnancy

Try to eat oatmeal everyday or if you get sick of eating it, drink prune juice or eat prunes, raisings etc. Also eat lots of fruits and food with fiber. If you want a tasty snack, they say popcorn is loaded with fiber.

Look at the nutrition value of the food you eat (it's in the package) and it should have a high percentage of Dietary Fiber, especially Insoluble Fiber.

Drink lots of water too!

Drink more water to hydrate you. Usually when your constipated your body isnt getting enough water to help dilute or saturate feces with the proper water it needs. Along with pregnancy you should be drinking plenty of water, because you are not only drinking water for yourself but for your baby as well. So thats my advice just carry a bottle of water with you wherever you go that should help the problem.

I ate lots of cereal - like Total and Cheerios and Life... they have fiber (and Life has sugar - ) which both helped me to go.
I am about 16 weeks... and still am not back to my "regular" bm's (like I had before pregnancy) ... but my diet has changed too. When I really wanted to go - I would eat something that prior to pregnancy would REALLY make me go (for me its coffee flavored drinks, etc) ... that seemed to work to.

Definately try the cereal though - it works :)

Congrats and good luck!

Natural home made medicine is Sonti for constipation. However, you take suggestion of elders in your home like your mother or mother-in-law. When you are pregnant, always better to take advice of doctor for your good health.
