if i just have a router can i connect to internet

modem can convert analog signals to digital and vice versa, router cannot

A modem connects a computer or network to another communications system (e.g. a phone line for the internet).

A router allows multiple computers to join a network.

Some routers have built-in modems, some don't.
You can connect to the internet using a router with built-in modem (common for ADSL broadband over a phone line), or with a router and a separate modem (common for cable broadband).

a modem allows only the use of one single computer whereas a router is used to run multiple computers in answer to your question yes you can still connect to net with just a router
