Please provide more information:
1. In the wireless router, did you set-up any encryption protocol like WEP? If so, did you set-up the correct access keys/passwords in the laptop?
2. In the wireless router, did you set-up for MAC address filtering? This could also be seen in the Firewall setting. If so, did you set-up for the MAC address in the laptop?
3. In the wireless router, under DHCP set-up, did you set-up for it to assign IP address to PC connecting to the router? If so, is your laptop's TCP/IP DHCP set-up is to accept IP address assignment from the network?
4. In the wireless router, did you specify IP address filtering? If so, does your laptop have a static IP address for LAN connections and it is actually being filtered by the router?
Kindly review these set-up parameters.

sometimes all you need to do is reset the router by shutting it off for a minute, unplugging it is best, turn it back on and try again
make sure if you have a button on your comuter that enable wireless it is turned on
you can always make sure the computer is picking up the connection and always go to repair connection or on internet explorer go to diagnose connection problems
if all that fails try restarting your laptop

I suspect you have the wrong network cable on the laptop connecting to your router; to quick check put the same cable on your desktop and see if it works on your desktop. otherwise check your tcp/ip settings on the laptop is it leasing the IP address? I havent given much info on here please give and we can see if we can sort out.

you will have a site to set your router up....somewhere in there you will have an 'allow access' page, you need to tell the router to allow your laptops IP addy and maybe mac addy.
start-run-cmd....type: ipconfig/all..... to find your ip's and mac's.
