I've read that you should turn off your computer (during the day, when at work), then I've read that you can keep it on. That the energy usage is small. I used to turn mine off everyday, now I turn it off every couple of days. What's the best way to maintain...whatever, where your computer is concerned.

well i turn mine of everyday because its overclocked so i don't want it to heat up when I'm not here to monitor it... you can leave them on indefinitely but its a good idea to restart them every once in a while so the RAM can be refreshed which will make your computer run smoother

Computers are made to run. Both of my computers run 24-7. Every time you turn on your computer it sends a power surge through the system. Also you have to look at what heat and cooling does. Heat expands things while cooling contracts. I turn my monitor off but leave my system on. I re-boot once a week.
Also both my systems are overclocked. There is no danger when your system is running stable. I check everything out each day and monitor everything. Your system has a fail safe device built into the motherboard. If anything gets to hot it will automatically shut down to prevent damage..

There is nothing wrong with turning off the PC when it is not in use.
It's like anything else, the more you use it, the more wear and tear experienced. Most people would not consider leaving their television running 24/7 even if it came equipped with a screen saver.

I leave mine on at all times except for when I go to bed and I reboot it at least every other day (or sooner if I need to).
When I go to bed I put it in standby.

It's sort of like leaving the light on...
If you are energy conscious, turn it off.
If you are on it constantly, like me, and need your internet at a moments notice--leave it on!

if you have ac running at your place then there isnt any problem to keep it always on and offcourse you dont bother about the electricity bill. i keep mine open 24/7.

If you use Windoze, turn the PC off when not in use.
It's not safe to leave it running.
