There is a 'screen' that is attached to the fuel pump that may have clogged up.This is common as that screen is the filter before the pump and allows the pump to work, but not allow it to 'pump' because of the screen being clogged. You say it does not work, or Does it not pump the fuel? Not coming on in tank, check connections and relay, coming on in tank but no fuel being pumped?, replace screen.

This was not the proper way to diagnose a fuel pump problem.
When you say does not work, you need to be more specific, can you hear it pump fuel up to the injectors when key turned to run? **BUZZ** about 2secs.
If no, you need to check the relay and wiring
Usually the vehicle would be a NO START, but it would crank.
Use the shrader valve on the rail to check pressure

Seems like a smart move to test power to the pump BEFORE taking the tank out... don't you THINK?

Loose or faulty connection. The filter may be jammed as well.
