so... HP has come out with new models of laptops that are really awesome. Despite a very sleek body, they pack power with Intel Core 2 Duo Processor and even include nice touches like a remote and a built-in webcam. Check out the most recent prices at your local electronics store like Best Buy, Compusa, or Circuit City.
In other words, your laptop is dead.

Battery might be the culprit,
you never mentioned what you did last.
try to disconnect the battery and re connect it again, or the battery must be completely drained.
Check your charger if connected properly, or if giving voltage at the terminal. use a voltmeter.

assuming you have tried mains power.....i think it is time for the laptop to visit the great IT place in the sky.
although i have heard of the odd few that will do nothing if the battery is dead, if you can, try another battery before writing it off.

It sounds like the battery is out of juice, try plugging in the mains adapter.

sounds like a dead computer.
Make sure the power plug is plugged in... and make sure whereever is plugged in is working.
Make sure your power supply is working.
And Make sure your CPU/Main board is working fine.
You can either change out the power supply and see if it works..
or change out the CPU/Main board to see if the problem lies there.
