As a partner in the Second Triumvirate, Antony ruled Egypt and the East. Octavian mainly ruled Italy, Rome and the West, except for Spain (Hispania). He was beaten in the sea battle of Actium, then pursued back to Alexandria. He committed suicide rather than submit to Octavian. Cleopatra did the same soon after.

As they said...committed suicide in Alexandria...and he wasn't the ruler. He was the tribune of the Senate. But he did control the Roman provinces of Egypt.
And back in those days, committing suicide as he did was the honorable way to go out. Only few cultures still believe that today.

Antony committed suicide in 30 BC. His lover, Queen Cleopatra VII of Egypt, killed herself soon afterwards.
