my mom is like you... one day she was driving and saw an old man get beat by some guy... she pulled over and almost ran into the guy with her car (just to scare him)... everyone in my family got mad at her because my little sister was in the back seat.. this guy could have had a gun.. he could have seriously hurt my mom and my sis... but she just did it because its just wired in her brain to help people......
sometimes its a good thing... and sometimes its not.

'G.M' is right there are more do-gooders on the side of the perps so a lot of people wouyldn't DARE step in and help.
I know I would HAVE to go help, I'd never stand by and watch or walk away.
I remember When I was 7 months pregnant with my (fourth!) baby, a boy got hit by a car RIGHT in front of me, and I was the ONLY one who ran to help him. People in their cars all around me just drove away, and even had the cheek to complain about MY car (which I abandoned, door open in the middle of the road- fair enough I suppose) being in the way.
It makes me sick.
He was in a bad way too....

I would love to intervene but to be honest I am scared, you hear about those teenagers carrying knifes and even guns and I don't think I could put my life at risk, I think it would be irresponsible considering what I would put my family through if something happened. In that situation, I believe the best thing to do is to call the Police as otherwise you could be aggravating the matter.

Yes have done in the past and would again !!!! its in my nature and the way i was raised to help those in need !!!
sadly people are afraid these days of getting sued or arrested when going to someones aid (those do gooders on the side of the perpetrator and not the victim have a lot to answer for !!)

I have and would always help some one in trouble. If you don't, the bad guys end up winning. My girlfriend hates the risks I have taken but is proud of me and doe's not try to stop me when assisting. Too many people "don't want to get involved" but we are all involved. It's called society, so let us all help each other and deter the thugs.

Yes but you cannot ignore the risk of retaliation, unless you want to give your all and thoroughly believe in what goes around comes around, of course people should intervene in the name of civilised society., I would try to help in some less direct overtly provocative way., that is the way of the world today. I wouldn't expect anyone to help if there was something going on, it is very sad.

There arent many people who would admit that they wouldnt help. But look at the footage recently of the 250lb off duty police officer in chicago beating up the 115lb woman who was the bartender and no one helped her.

Yep me too (throws hat into the ring), I'm on board, NEVER leave another Human Being (or Animal) in trouble, I saved a kid from drowning two years ago, my brother was also a good swimmer, when we were kids, he would always cut out and go surfing, he would collect on bet's by out swimming the lifeguards, he could out swim them (He could), one day a girl got caught in a rip tide and swept about a mile out, the life guards could NOT reach her, my brother did !

Yep, there's some things you have to get envolved in people forget SOCIAL OBLIGATION.

Even if your out numbered and gonna get beats, sometimes you just gotta help.

I have seen people get stabbed for trying to help out and I do understand the fear that stops people from engaging, but you know what? if thats the way I gotta go, doing the right thing then so be it. x

I would call the police. I knew someone who intervened in an attack and ended up getting seriously injured. Who knows, these people could have knives.
