I am 6 weeks pregnant and due in November. How do I tell my boss I am pregnant and when should I tell him. He has a history of getting rid of pregnant ladies not firing them but making them leave themselves. I am so worried I will loose my job. This year is my 3rd year at the company.

I do not appreciate your answer Ashish b. If you have nothing nice to say or at least some decent advice, then please do not answer my questions in future. I definitely won't be answering yours as they are all to do with weird sexual experiences.

Ummm this is tough. I would certainly wait for as long as you can if he is like this. Unless you have a job that entails a lot of lifting heavy objects I would wait until you were at least half way through your pregnancy.

Then if he starts pulling things to try and get you to quit document it and if he has a higher up report his actions. Don't let him harrass you into quiting if you don't want to.

If he has a history of making life unbearable for pregnant ladies, then make a plan. You cannot hide your pregnancy forever - you have choices: 1. Start a job search now and get out while the getting is good, but you would have to tell any prospective employer that you are pregnant so that they are prepared for you to be off work for 6 - 8 weeks. 2. Also, plan ahead, tell your boss at the 3 month mark that you are pregnant, but while you are off on maternity leave find another job. Then before your time off is up, you can give a two week notice and then you don't have to worry. It is always easiest to get a job while you have a job, but much harder to do so when you are unemployed. If your boss is not the owner or CEO you do have a recourse. You go to HR and let them know that he is making you miserable with his actions. You are protected by Family Medical Leave Act and he cannot take away your job in its entirety. Look into all your options. I was fortunate, I was able to work up to the end of my first full term pregnancy, I had a great boss, and then because I was not planning on returning he was able to hire someone to replace me with enough notice to get them trained before I left.

the best option would be to connect with your boss as a parent. if he has children enquire about them and start talking about how wonderful you think it must be to be a parent. ask him how he manages to be such a great boss and still be a good father. furthermore, make yourslef irreplacable to the company, he should know that you are an employee that works hard and also has strong personal ties. when you start showing, go to him and tell him that you need his advice as a father and because you feel he is the only person at work you really look up to. tell him you recently found out you were pregnant and you would still love very much to be a part of his dynamic team, but you also want to be a good mother. stress how important this job is to you and makew him understand that your pregnancy will not interfere with your job performance and that you are really excited when you think that one day your kids could be friends. good luck!!!

You don't have any obligation to tell your employer that you are pregnant - the bump will tell him. You have your rights and he cannot let you go because you are pregnant. Find out from the Labour Department what you can do should he decide to let you go. All the best and God Bless You!!

As for Ashish B - your comments are unwarranted especially from someone who asks "What are the key ideas to bring a women very fast to your bed? ladies please?" Give me a break. Based on your comments, can we be grateful that you are not going to be getting some poor girl pregnant?

i would tell him sooner rather than later in-case u have any health issues throughout ur pregnancy(hopefully not), however what i would do before u tell him is find out ur rights as a pregnant employee then that way if he trys 2 tell u u have 2 leave or try 2 make u leave u an argue ur case as u will know ur rights and exactly where u stand. Good Luck and congrats.

its unfortunate ur boss does that. perhaps he has no wife nor children of his? don't worry, tell him as soon as possible to get urself off the worry, don't look sympathetic though. losing a job isn't the end of the world. If he makes u leave, walk out of there in joy and ur baby'll be proud of it. U have the greatest gift coming ur way, don't allow anything suppress that joy.

Your boss in a jerk to put it mildly but you have awhile to go before he needs to know and don't leave your job. And check out the labor laws in your state

Tell him you do not want to leave, you like your job, and that you're pregnant.

Don't tell him. When your belly gets bigger and he comes up and ask if you're pregnant, just look down and say "OH! Is that what that is?!"
