The Civic HX is a regular Civic LX model with the optional continuously variable transmission (CVT). A CVT transmission does not shift as a regular automatic transmission does; it uses a drive belt and variable pulleys to continually change the gear ratios so that the engine is always running at the most effeicient part of the torque curve. It is slightly more economical than the regular LX Civic and has had a very reliable history. So if you're looking for reviews, look for the regular Civic for the other items just keep in mind that this has a CVT transmission in it so don't think there is a problem if the car doesn't 'shift' when you drive it.

As for the price, try the Kelly Blue Book site www.kbb.com for a range of values on that car. It doesn't seem too high to me. Just be certain that the owner has kept up the maintenance. On the 98 the car is due for the major service at 90k and that will run about $350 at a honda dealer. Additionally, the timing belt and water pump should be changed every 7 years or 105k so on time the vehicle is due for the timing belt. That will run about $400 with the water pump, coolant and all of the drive belts. If the owner has had those services done, then the $4600 is probably a fair price. If they haven't had it done, you have a bargaining chip to try to get them to come down in price with the knowledge that there is $750 in maintenance services due on the car.

hope that helps

I will tell you this........if the body looks too goo then there is a chance it may e been wrecked, replaced and repainted

Try to look at all of the wheel wells, under the hood, behind body panels, ect.

Look for areas that look way to clean, if the body parts are original then you will see dirty everywere behind them!

I almost bought a nissan that looked "too good to be true" for the price. After I insected it I noticed that behind the front bumper was clean and all the bumper brackets were shiny black with nice clean white stickers on them. i also noticed that the emblems on the side fenders had been sprayed over with clear coat.

The truck had been in a serious collision but it look like new.

Point is that everything that glitters is not gold!
