Hi and congratulations on your upcoming baby! I am not from Ireland but I would imagine that the ultrasound still works the same way.
What they will do is have you drink a ton of water (I always had about 30 oz) before showing up and have a full bladder. Then when they are ready to do the scan they will put a gel on your tummy which helps conduct the picture of the baby. They generally then measure different parts of the baby's body to see if they correlate to your due date. Then they also make sure everything looks right. If they check for sex they would be doing that at the same time. Some places do video tapes or pictures to print out of the scan for the parents
Now for the rest...you are 17 weeks. That baby in there is growing and stretching you all out and moving your organs about. Its completely natural to feel uncomfortable on some days but not on others. Also at this early stage you won't always feel the baby moving around.
Anyways good luck at your ultrasound. And if your partner is allowed to go then take them. Its special for everyone :)

My best Hope is YOU and Sweet BABY both are very well. And Pls do not get worried to yr Ultrasound. It is just a very simple Scan to see BABY's position and gender (if you want to know if Baby Boy or Baby Girl ). Everything is ok. And pls do what yr Doctor says. He/She knows better than You and Me. Enjoy your Pregnant time,. And be a Proud Mom.
I am a male and too Far from your Country but my BEST wishes to both of YOU and the BABY. Stay Happy and Healthy.
Can you write me the result after Ultrasound Scan ? I will be waiting.

there's no big deal about ultra-sound if u go do it at the right place. u 'll be asked a few questions and asked to lay on ur back for the scan. If U're lucky to get attended to by one who's not so fussy. The key word is preparation. Just prepare ur mind and U'll find it interesting. As for ur anxiety, its normal to feel that way at this stage. Ur baby is just growing and movement isn't so frequent now. they get more active as they grow. And even then, they have their quiet moment when they sleep or rest. So don't panic. when U're six months up, ur baby will be more active and u shd ony consult ur doctor if U notice no movement for 24hours.

Yes they will only scan and possibly take blood to check hormone levels.
Yes, the feelings come and go
The best thing you can do is eat healthy , exercise ( walking is great, makes delivery easier to) and relax , be happy
Congrats !
The sooner the partner shares in this the better, it takes two to get this way because your in this together:)

At this scan they will probably insert a cam (on a shape of a skinny microphone) in ur vagina. Of course that depending what ur doctor is looking for they will just do the regular scan.
I had both when I was pregant with my son. Later on you will have only the belly ultrasound.
Your doctor probably just wants to know if your placenta and the baby and everything else is growing ok.
Its ok if u dont feel anything once in a while... In a month or so you will be asking ur baby to please stop ... lol
