im trying to do a complete system restore. or basically bring my computer back to pretty much how it was the day i got it. i have all my files backed up and the drivers that i need on an external hard drive. what id really like to do is delete EVERYTHING thats on my hard drive now. i have an hp zv5000. and ive done complete restores (if thats what they are called) before and they've worked just fine. now when i try to do them (ive tried 5 times already) everything is still on my hard drive. after the new windows is installed. (windows xp w/ sp2)

i tried to ask someone for help and they said that my hard drive had to be in FAT format.. and when i checked, its in NTFS. what do i need to do to get the results that i want?

Boot from the XP cd into command prompt mode :-
from there format your c drive
after that -- install XP from scratch again

As per my understanding of your problem...u want ur hard disk to be completely cleand...

well stick to the NTFS format it self...

after ur os installation use "disk defragmentor" its a pretty neat tool....
