It sounds to me like your baby has colic..

Colic is when a baby cries for longer than three hours every day for more than three days a week. It is the extreme end of normal crying behavior. The condition is harmless, though it can be very distressing for parents. The cause is not known, but there are ways to help calm a baby down.

Try these:

carry the baby in a front sling or back pack
wrap him or her snugly in a blanket (this is called swaddling)
keep the baby moving in a baby swing
place him or her near continuous noise or vibrations from household appliances like the dishwasher, vacuum cleaner or washer-dryer
take him or her for a car ride or a walk outside
give him or her a dummy to suck on
give him or her tummy or back rubs
take a shower together - the warm water may be comforting

Also here are some reasons your baby may have colic:

Parents who bottle-feed their babies may want to try a different formula. For parents who breastfeed, it's a good idea to continue this because weaning the baby from breast milk may make the colic worse.

Some women find that certain foods in their diet seem to make colic worse and they may find that cutting these foods out helps. These might include cruciferous vegetables (eg cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, sprouts and parsnip), beans, onions, garlic, apricots, melon, spicy foods, caffeine and alcohol. By reintroducing foods gradually, women may be able to identify which food, if any, is causing the problem.

If there is a family history of milk sugar (lactose) intolerance, breastfeeding mothers could try eliminating cows milk from their diet. Sometimes babies are not able to digest lactose well - this improves as they get older.

Some parents who bottle-feed their baby try changing over to soya-based formula, but there is no evidence that this is effective at reducing colic.

If the baby seems to have a lot of wind, make sure he or she is burped frequently. Babies who are bottle-fed may swallow air from the bottle: try feeding the baby in a different position, or using a bottle and teat designed to reduce the amount of air the baby swallows during a feed. These include curved bottles, bottles with a collapsible bag inside or bottles with a vent.

If you have considered seeing a docter for the crying you shoud first consider these reasons as to why the baby may be crying and one by one make certain that they are not the reason.

hunger
tiredness
lack of contact - some babies want to be cuddled all the time
startling - eg due to a jerky movement or sudden noise
undressing - most babies don't like the feel of air on their skin
temperature - is the baby too hot or too cold?
pain - is there an identifiable source of pain, eg a nappy rash

Best of luck and hope all turns out well.

It could be colic like everyone has said. Or she could be like my daughter. My daughter was number 3 for me. She cried since birth on. It was so bad in the hospital I got very emotional. Once she was home it didn't get better. I would feed her and then she would cry for the next two hours until she went to sleep. She exhausted me. She would watch her brothers and you could tell she wanted to be Mobile. Needless to say she crawled and walked early. After crawling she cried less and once walking at 8 and half months the crying was almost gone. Dr and I don't know why she was like this. Now my daughter is 5 and is very stubborn. Just talk to the baby's Dr. He knows whats going on with her better then we do. Never know when there is a hidden medical condition.

You are probably still trying to get used to each other. It is often hard to work out what your baby needs when you hardly know each other. Despite what people say, it is not instinctual for a woman to know what their baby wants, we have to learn from them. In time you'll work out if it's hunger or pain or wind etc. If you have had your baby assessed & your baby is feeding well & gaining weight then it is probably just a case of the above. My first girl cried for the first 6 months of her life & i feel it was because i was stressed & lacked confidence as a mum & held her constantly (which made it hard when i tried to put her down). Hang in there.

Wind or hunger? Security of feeling snuggled, sing to her talk to her. Ask your health visitor about baby massage, it's really soothing for both of you and a great bonding experience. If your breast feeding watch what you eat as this effects your milk and can give your baby an upset tummy. Wrap her up warm and take her for a nice walk.

Have her checked out first if nothing is found you may have to accept that some babies are just like that. If it gets too much make sure she is safe and take a few minuets for a little walk in the garden, good luck,it dosen't last forever.

wrap her up tight - she has just come out of a warm, secure area, and she used to hear your heartbeat 24 hours a day

once upon a time - someone had a device that would record your heartbeat - so you could play the tape for little one - don;t remember who the company was, though

she is also used to bouncing through the day with you - and may not like being down in a bed or rocker

some major changes have just happend - and you have a very precious little life - enjoy! and love

then send her to me to spoil! (LOL!)

She is suffering from colic. If you are doing everything right then this is the only thing left. Try to keep her in your arms as much as you can. She can cry for sleep also. Colic problem is very painful for children. Consult a doctor for medicine. Is she passing gas properly? Is her stomach bloated? Colic it is.

She may have colic, my baby had terrible colic from 4 days until 4 months, and cried for nearly the whole of that time, even though i was breastfeeding.

could be a number of things, start with the obvious. has she got a clean nappy? is she hungry? is her room at the right temperature? it is possible to that she has colic, higher risk when bottle feeding. and sometimes they just want a cuddle and to be played with!lots of attention! remember for 9 months up until 18 days ago she was inside you nice and warm listerning to your heart.its a bit of a shock coming out of there! just hold in there! if you still want addvice or support, ring your mid wife! thats what our taxes pay for and there there to be used! dont get cut out of your mid wife treatment!
