There are a few possible causes for pain during intercourse that could be going on with your wife and they are:
1. Endometriosis (to learn more about this check out: http://www.endocenter.org), one of the classic symptoms of this disease is painful intercourse
2. vulvodynia (check out: http://www.vulvarhealth.org) which is just a medical word for pain of the external genital area
3. Interstitial Cystitis (to learn more about this check out: http://www.ic-network.com) which is an inflammatory condition that affects the bladder causing it not to have a lot of protection on the bladder wall when it comes to eating things that are acidic as one example.
I would recommend that she have this pain checked out by her dr to see what could be causing it.

Do cunsult a doctor, preferably a sexologist. Maybe, your postioning is complicated in the time of copulation or you are oversized....she could have some taboo...you can read some books about sex education.....
