ITs a 24 port switch and all the machines are new machines. If i connect more than 10 or 11 machines it gets triggered and goes OFF. Sometimes the error doesn't occur and earlier it was working fine. Is there a solution? No virus have been detected on any of the machines.

Could be a faulty switch. The units are normally built in a modular way and can be built up in port of 4 or 8 at a time. I would ensure the switch's firmware is up to date and have a look at the support site on the web for this model of switch. Good luck.

If your runnning Win XP pro, its probably not your switch but your computers themselves. Do you have them connected through a server or are they grouped as a workgroup? Microsoft states that no more then 10 machines can be connected using xp pro without a server. (five if your using home edition) If your connecting through a server, check the powersupply on the switch.

could be something to do with XP Home - as this only supports up to 10 machines on a network - XP Pro does not have this restriction
