They do not do well in the old clay pots, it needs to be in a plastic pot with a drain hole and a saucer under it. East sun is the best and african violet food and water the roots, never the leaves at least once a week. Don't let it get as dry as a bone and don't drown it. Look at your flowers when you get them, some you can pull off when spent and others have more buds on the base of the old flower and you just snip off the spent blossom and wait for the others to come. If you don't have an east window then just get a small desk lamp with a energy saver bulb and put it under that for about 12 hours a day.

It is pretty normal, many people have real trouble growing them.
What the lack of flourescense means is that it is getting the wrong light, nutrients, or not enough humidity. I have african violets that I put into a terrarium about 2 years ago and now I have at least a dozen plants (started with one) and they flower at least once a year (I don't check them often, I just let them go). Try putting some violet fertlizer in the pot and covering it with a plastic baggie for a week.
Good luck, HTH

No that sounds like one really unhappy plant, once it starts to flower it should carry on most of the summer, does it need to be re potted and have you been feeding it,is it in the shade as it loves sunshine, but not too hot sun, don't water from the top but from the bottom a little and often is better than a lot.Is the leaves firm or do they feel limp? stems should be firm with strong leaves tiny buds form at the base in the middle.

They should go on and on. Try repotting them in bigger pot and new compost.
