"My parents gave me a tuition check FOR THE AMOUNT OF Rs1500."
This would actually be the correct way of saying it. In this instance both FOR & OF are prepositions. It would be correct to say "I was given a bill FOR having my house painted." - It's a reason for giving you the bill, or the check. The OF refers to the amount written ON the check. If it tells you 'where', it's a preposition.
