for a start don't listen to the idiots on this site that say go for the drink, have a party to mark the day, there's nothing sadder than...blah blah blah. they obviously either have no idea or they are still hiding from life the only thing they have said that is good advice is it's your life and your disition. I work for a homeless hostal and the large amount of clients that end up at my place have some sort of addiction problem whether it be drugs or alcohol, also my brother is an alchoholic and my brother in law in a drug addict and from this i can tell you that if you have been as you say drinking for 14 odd years then the one thing you do not want to do under any cercumstances is give up drinking 'cold turkey' as it can possibly send your body into shock and can kill you instead try to limit yourself to about 4 cans per day.ie: one in the morning one about mid morning one mid afternoon and one before bed.
also find yourself a good counsellor that you can build a rappor with as you will need to look into the reasons you started drinking in the first place the best people i can think of to help you with this would be AA or addaction the second being the best as they are generally staffed by people who have battled with addiction in the past so are better equipt to understand what you are going through finally i would say the first thing you need to decide is why you want to quit as your reasons are the most important step as it is your motivation and without strong motivation you will fail. finally remember giving up won't nessisarily make your life better but it will make you a stronger person both pysically and mentally which will allow you to stop hiding and deal with the things that will make your life better.
i hope this helps for details on contacting aa or addaction you can either see you gp or if not you can ring 01293 447702 and ask for substance misuse where i work and we will be glad to offer you advice or just give you some numbers of poeple who can help.

It's never too late to quit.
There is so much out there you couldn't enjoy because of this condition.
I had some problems with alcohol in my teen years but got over it.
1.get rid of all the alcohol (flush it down the kitchen sink, give it away etc)
2.get into a 12 step program or something like that
3. get your life back on track
4. get a medical exam on your liver and other organs and their function
5. get a pet
6. get to be happy
7..I hope you will find a new better way :)

do what makes u happy. don't let anyone tell u what to do and what not to do. alcoholism is not a disease. see u've been an alcoholic for 14 years and ur still doing fine. and i bet u are happiest when ur drunk. so i say u should drink urself into oblivion.

2 months i would of asked myself the same question. that is exactly how I felt. let me tell you...by the grace of something amazing i am alive today! i didn't try to drink myself into oblivion....just tried to control my drinking...it didn't work. the next day i woke up so f*ucking depressed... I don't think I ever hit the emotional low i hit that day...i felt completely empty and hopeless like no other day. i got on my knees and asked god for help. something amazing happend to me. it was like my mind had been fogged and in that moment...everything cleared up for me. miraculously, i had a new desire to live and to live happy. ever since that day...i get on my knees everyday and ask god to work his will through me. my life has never been better! i woke up everyday and tell ( a 5 yr old pic of me) myself..."today I am going to take care of u sweety"
I've learned that in order to believe that other people love me and in order to love others, I had to LOVE MYSELF.
I've been on this amazing emotional journey. Now that I have love for me...I am able to see that other people really do loove me and that people aren't really out to get me and all this love that i carry with me...I want to share with everyone that comes my way. and that is a f*cking miracle....it can happen to you
(pray-"fake it till u make it" def. worked for me)
send me a message and i'll guide u through any time and i really mean that!
take care of ur self and for godsake...stay away from that first drink and get ur self to a meeting!
