Its purely depends on the environment like pollution and heat, etc.,
The main concern is that the Processor must not burn because of the heat.
Otherwise there is no limit for desktop pc to be "ON" condition until you wish to switch off.

I do a great deal of downloading using e-mule, and leave the sucka running for several days at a time without any significant problems: as long as everything is running ok inside the box - especially the fans - it shouldn't cause too many problems.
The networked PCs where I work are left on CONTINUALLY, and seldom see a reboot - until a software error forces one - so I reckon you should be ok.
I'm actually of the opinion that you'll get a better longer life out of a desktop PC the less you switch it off: I haven't anything but a hunch to go on here, but i suspect that switching it on and off too often and leaving it to cool down completely might cause component failures from the continued expansion / contraction of component parts as they cool down / heat up again.
Just the same, I'd advise caution about leaving it unattended for long periods of time, just from the point of view of it being a potential fire / electrical hazard if something goes catastrophically wrong - but believe it's pretty unlikely really.

Here is an example you may appreciate:
In 2001, we bought two computers. One for our home and one for my mom for a Mothers' day present. (just basic HP)
In our house, the only time the computer gets restarted is when we are changing something on it like software etc.
My mom, on the other hand is diligent about saving power and thought it was better for the computer to not always be running. The environments in our two homes are similar, and both computers were hooked up to stable power sources to avoid surges etc.
I still have the same computer I bought then (now for my kids) and it is still never shut down completely.
My mom's computer went caput in 2005, and was a total loss. She is still not convinced it was because she always turned off and on, but I am.
The electricity used is not much. No more than your tv, really. Also, reports from electric companies can be found on the net as to what causes the bills to be high. Generally speaking, your electric bill is more from your major appliances like your washer and dryer than anything else...
Just some food for thought...
Good Luck!

Yes, you can run your desktop PC for more than 150 hours (straight, I assume). You can run it as long as you pay your electricity bill and as long as windows does not crash.
Why would you want to run it so long? You are wasting electricity! Another other thing is that many system updates, browser updates, security updates require your to RESTART your computer to take effect. So even if you have your programs set to auto update, they might not take effect because you are obsessed with wasting electricity and breaking some sort of silly record.

I leave mine on full bore all the time! Its been running for 4 years other than an occasional reboot due to software installation. or changes to my system. I do this because it saves wear and tear on my pc. The stress of the heating and cooling from turning the pc off and on causes expansion and contraction of the circuit boards. This causes solder joint stress and may lead to open circuits.

u can but u should keep the pc into air conditioner only, coz it should not become hot. but use carefully and when u r not using or any process is running for more then few minutes, so u save ur pc by switch off ur monitor only, so u can use it easily, but switch off only monitor, not total pc. u can switch off the monitor button from monitor not from CPU.

Indefinately.
I've had this pc for about 6 months and I've not shut it down ever. I've only restarted a few times.
I never shut my machines off.

You can run it as long as you like without shutting down. Its actually safer from turning it on and off. But ofcourse there is electricity bill to think about! hehe.
But unless if you download loads of stuff, shutting it down will make your room and your leg, er..less heaty! :P

You can run it forever. It all depends on your system performance. I restart my PC only once or twice a week.

you can run it as long as you like as long as there is adequate cooling, no fluctuations in electricity (or you have a stabalizer attached) - I have kept my computer running for weeks sometimes without restarting.
