Man is the only animal species that moraly doesnt practice polygamy, although it's biological - in that we inherited the genes of our stone-age ansestors who were world-class polygamists. It's hard for a man to have one partner and we will always have the desire to have more then one partners, it's a fact. So since polygamy is biologicaly necessary for reproduction, why are we against it? I mean there's five women to one man, imagine if every man on earth would be faithful to one woman, what will happen to the rest of the women? go hungry? I dunno. What's your take on this.

Polygamy is not a problem unless you decide it's a problem. If a man takes more than one wife, or woman takes more than one husband, and all are concenting, who is harmed? Forget that laws are set up to benefit one man, one woman couples. That is a choice humans made. Why can't 5 men and 5 women set up household on a farm, and everyone gets along, and all have sex? Who is harmed? Kids? Imagine having 10 loving parents. I'm not secure enough to go beyond 1 "life partner" but for those for whom it works, more power to them.

I say that men and women should be able to do whatever they want. I am not sure if polygamy is biologically justified for the survival of the species. I would think that moving from one partner to the next over time as is practiced in most cities would be the most common (polyamorous over multiple relationships, but one man/woman at a time).

Personally, I would feel jealous if I had to share a man. And in most societies there are near equal numbers of women and men. I assume that if the opposite were the case, if there were more men than women (as is now occurring in India and China due to sex-selective female abortion and infanticide), then you wouldn't mind having 4 guys to share one woman with, right?

Sure you're not even slightly jealous at the prospect?

I don't know if it is accurate to say that humans are the "only" animals to not engage in polygamy. There are quite a few other species that mate exclusively with one partner for life. However, there are an awful lot of animals that do practice it. I think that Humans are the only ones that have hang-ups about it. It isn't for me, but it does seem to be prevalent in nature, so that means to me it must be a natural act.
