The sun snoozepaper i feel has gone too far this morning on page 8 showing a caracature of McClaren shooting himself in the head. A jokes a joke and all that and I am in agreement that he never had the required experience for the job. But to sujest that the country wants him to do that ove a game, i think is very wrong.

Could be judged as harsh but fair?!?! but at the end of the day its a game of footie and he aint running around on the pitch, the players need to pull their heads out of their asses and be proud to be representing all the thousands of fans around the country!!

the problem with the sun, is it is a very popular paper with england fans, and lets be honest about this, the majority of englands fans are not the sharpest tools in the box. so if the sun (a very strong medium) printed that McClaren was doing a sterling job and the players were either very unluckly, or not up to scratch, the majority of people would believe it.

i watched the match against isreal twice, with rewinding, the isrealies worked harder, the english system was fine, lennon was the only english player who showed grit, and as for rooney and johnston everytime they got the ball there was 3 defenders around them. i will not fall into the trap of saying an english player was bad, the fact is the isrealies were better than some of the english players thought.

There is one thing about the press and specially the english one; they support less than they criticise... They think the best way to sell the news papers is by criticising while it's a very big mistake.

As you've said, there is no doubt he doesn't have any quality to coach world class players and one of the best in the planet but as long as the mistake has been made to appoint him, we have to be optimistic and give support.

My advice would be to appoint the best man for the job and that would be a foreigner because there is no other british who can do the job apart from Alex so as long as he's at Man U they have to consider the alleged list Chelsea have made if Mourinho leaves.

Good Luck!

Newspapers, on the whole, go too far with many of their articles - they should stick to the facts and stop giving highly biased opinions. I think the laws on 'free speech' should be tightened as far as the written word is concerned.

Steve McClaren is clearly struggling at present, but I don't think the team are giving him their best, to say the least. However, newspaper articles such as the one you mention, are not helpful or constructive to the manager, the team or the public, as they simply stir up frustration, ill feeling and potential trouble.

I have not seen the article you mention but if true, I agree it is in poor taste.
Tabloid newspapers are the scourge of the middle classes and often report in order to sensationalise to sell. There is no justification for such malevolent stupidity and whether or not he was suitable for the job, it is the players who get a result on the night. How often do they play badly, make excuses and be selected again, in League football?

I hope the public are sufficiently capable of refuting the often trotted out reason for England failures that the Manager is always the reason for a lost game/

I'm not too sure who's the worst judge of character The Sun or Mcclaren but i support England and hope for his sake they get a positive result tonight.

Yeah, if the cartoon had been him shooting himself in the foot it might have been more funny but agree with you that that is a bit extreme, it's only some kids kicking a ball around in a park after all

I agree, that is going a bit to far. Sport tied in with money these days has become bad news. I am sure you saw what happened to Bob Woolmer at the cricket world cup. Do these guys in the media know what they are doing?

Yeah its in bad taste. If you want Mclaren gone go to the Downing street web site petitions and type England manager into the search engine and add your voice.
