During the Northern Ireland conflict 1969 - …….. “prisoners of war” status was sanctioned by the Govt, and those same prisoners had a say in the rights of such prisoner status.

Therefore, will Ulster stand a chance of becoming “prisoner of war” years down the line again when the pot runs dry and they want more?.. After all, those tactics have won once, so what’s to stop it happening again?

What happened to the old adage, “we never give in to blackmail or terrorists”?…

Exactly what definition did Gordon Brown put on the £1-BILLION “bonus “ QUOTE “ Chancellor Gordon Brown has promised Northern Ireland an extra £1bn if devolution is restored on Monday.” UNQUOTE http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/6477881.stm when he made that “pledge”?

Hello,

(ANS) Northern Ireland is a wonderful place & the people I met there were so friendly. But for Northern Ireland to really stand a chance of real lasting peace going forwards into the future both Ian Pailsley & Gerry Adams have to "seriously" share power NOT divide the power between them. Thats the real danger as I see it.

**If the political power is divided again between the DUP (paisley) and the old IRA people (adams) then NOTHING will have changed and northern ireland wont see peace.

However if and that's a very big "if" both paisley & adams are seriously prepared to share equally the political power then and only then will northern ireland see peace, lasting peace.

**You could look at the dilemma another way and say does the present polotical situation offer the possibility of healing the divisions and horrors of the past. Do both groups want healing & peace more than they want conflict, may be the time for something different has arrived finally?

**I do know that for all his fire & brimstone, all his god retoric, all his refusal to make any form of compromise. Ian Pailsey has made a remarkable change of mind from the past. Maybe that in itself is significant of something new & more hopeful, its still early days too know but time will tell.
