Actually, they dont look like stars. Planets don't twinkle.
But, since their distance from earth is far, they look the same. Stars are larger and at the same time farther off. This relation makes them look nearly same

You're right, they both look like bright dots in the sky because they are so far away. But stars twinkle while planets don't and that's a way to tell which is which. Planets also move a bit every night in the sky while stars do not.

Because they're a long way away!

They only reflect the sun's light, unlike stars, and are very much nearer and smaller than stars, but still they appear to the naked eye as points of light.

Though actually you may be able to discern the disc with very good eyesight, in the cases of Venus (especially), Mars and Jupiter.

They Appear specially Venus, Mars & Jupiter there surface reflects the sun light to earth , just the same case as the moon, but the moon is much closer while planets are far away.

Mars is 47 million miles away, or 47,000,000 miles

The distance to the closest star to our sun is 4.2 light Years, which is 24 Trillion millions away, or 24,000,000,000,000 miles.

The closest star is 500,000 times farther away. So even though stars are much brighter, than the reflection of the sun from planets, stars are much, much, much farther away.

planets don't shine, or twinkle for that matter but they look like stars thanks to their RELATIVE MAGNITUDE(the way you see them from your naked eyes here on earth). they just reflect the light that comes from the sun and whatever light that that can bring to us, we see them as little twinkles. that is because the light being reflected from the sun to them cannot travel too fast thats why we can only see little bits of light reflecting from them thus forming the little twinkles I said earlier.

but a simple answer to your question has something to do with the planet's distance from us.

Because the sun it reflecting off them, causing them to appear bright. Stars are brighter though, as they are burning balls of gas.
