When I was ten. I'll never forget it. Christmas Eve 1976, about 10.30pm. I didn't have a clock so I didn't know the time. I came halfway down the stairs and shouted "Has Santa been yet?"

My sister had some friends from the Poly C.U. in and one of them looked at me and laughed ..."She doesn't still believe in Santa at her age, does she?" I felt humiliated and don't think I ever quite forgave my parents for letting me believe a lie. I vowed I wouldn't do the same to my children. I can't have bairns but have nieces and nephews. Fortunately, my sister and brother in law disagree with the Santa myth too and I've never had to lie to them but I always tried to edge round it with my brother's lot so that I didn't have to lie to them outright.

I think i figured it myself when i was about 10. Although i almost broke my neighbours wee boys heart by asking him what his mum and dad were getting him for christmas, his face dropped, "Santa brings my presents doesnt he" so having a second to think i said that Mummy and Daddy tell Santa what to make for you in his work shop and then he brings it Xmas eve. Phew that was a save that kept me from being a horrible person

I think I was about 10 and no one told me, I just gradually worked out that he wasn't real and where the presents under the tree really came from!!

I don't think people should tell you that Santa doesn't exist, when your young it takes all the fun out of Christmas!

My parents did not believe in telling us lies about such things, we knew that it was our parents and relatives who bought us presents because we wrote thank you notes to them, and also we could read the gift tags on the presents!! I was happier knowing it was my family and relatives, it made me appreciate the gifts more as I knew it was a real person who worked and paid for them. It's called appreciating the value of things.

When I was 6 I saw my mom and dad putting presents into socks. Then somehow I thought that they are giving me presents, not Santa :(

I think I was about 9, my brother told me, although, I did keep asking him, the suspicion was there but that was a few years ago and kids seemed to believe in him longer.

Never did, my parents are the rare old type who brought me up without ever telling me any lies whatsoever...and I respect them for that.
