and why wasn't it around when I was in high school, damnit!? We had mIRC but the only question going around there was "a/s/l ?!"

I don't believe anyone could give you a number. In my schooldays there were no home computers at all, and no calculators. We relied on textbooks and had to do our research by using libraries or asking relatives for advice. Many of our textbooks were badly out of date.

Even when I was at university, and doing a bit of statistics, the only way to get help with heavy calculations for mean and standard deviation was to ask if we could use the university's hand-cranked adding machine.

I do, a lot. It helps with research and harder to find information. Some stuff it'd take me hours to find otherwise...
