Please do not say “by the cross of St Patrick” because he was Welsh !!!

Does the Union Jack NEED to be modernised to reflect the 21st Century “united” Kingdom, given Scotland, Wales and, all being well, Northern Ireland all have their own National Assemblies to govern their own Countries?

What sort of flag do you think would be a more representative flag for “united” Kingdom today? Describe it?

For me, I came across a BRILLIANT image of a more true representative flag for United Kingdom of today… and tomorrow… http://www.geocities.com/bfpoonline/ni.html?1174996650696

Wales is properly represented, as is Scotland, Ulster - even England St George Cross is there, as is The Crown - which we all serve under.

Welsh soldiers serve under the crown and are repatriated under the Union Jack, yet WHERE is Wales represented in the National flag?

The Union Flag since 1801 represents England, Scotland and Ireland. Wales was already in the principality, therefore, under the flag of St George.

Your suggestion is terrible. Why is the English one so prominent?

Wales had no explicit recognition in the flag because Wales had been annexed by Edward I of England in 1282 and, since the Laws in Wales Acts 1535–1542, was legally part of the Kingdom of England.

Oh and "Union Jack" should only be used for the flag when it is flown as a jack (a small flag flown at the bow of a ship). You are talking about the "Union flag".

I agree it's crap though, but Scotland will be independent soon enough then you can design one without us, so hold your horses till then.

Sorry guys, bad info; sadly no home nations are "countries" officially. (England included), it's the UK. all 4 are Nations. Wales were annexed to England by military force/ royal decree 15TH Century-Scotland forced by financial pressure a few hundred years later to join. For whatever reason, this "UK" Is a hotch potch of ancient laws and undemocratic rulings and flags cobbled together over a about 600 years-N. Ireland, Scotland & England were included as internal parts. Wales was arrogantly included within England as a borough effectively -as it had the only existing original British/Cymric line of kings dating to Roman times, to be a true British king they needed Wales inside (hence the first son being prince of Wales, royal marriage rings of Welsh gold etc.) either which way it's all outdated and with Scotland and N. Ireland likely to leave London Rule in some form and Wales finally starting swinging this way - it's a matter of time - revamp it equally or watch it get torn apart from inside by those who don't get a fair deal. Flag included.

NB. Padrig (St.) was taken as prisoner as a young man by Irish raiders from the Western coast of Cymric lands when there was no England & still spoke Welsh - probably in the place that still holds Wales name ... Cumbria regardless of today's boundaries - he was a Welsh speaker and a Welshman

The glorious Red Dragon of the Battle Standard of Wales does not form part of the so called Union Flag which representes the union of Scotland and England.

Well, like it or not, Wales is not see as a country, but a principality of England. Sorry, but its true. Thats why Prince Charles is also the Prince of Wales. Hence why there is not a seperate flag in the union jack. Being Scottish, i feel for Wales!

Foo is right we're not included on it because of King Edward. The flag is a blend of the Scottish and English, due to the events of the time Wales is represented under the English flag.

i dont like the geocities flag suggestion there.... the top left hand corner of the flag is the position of prominance and it would not be correct to place the welsh flag (or any other) in that corner.
wales is part of england so signified with the st george cross on our union flag now

I loved the new version of the Union Jack although I really see no reason to change what we have now. I dont know about Wales on the flag...good question, never thought of it before I must admit

Wales sadly is not represented.

But the flag you've chose is pretty controversial itself. Why put England in the center and largest symbol - surely this would upset more than it pleased?

Well firstly St Patrick was Scottish not Welsh & Scotland has a parliament not an assembly, Wales is officially a principality not a country and it's Micky Mouse flag has no legal status
