The Scientific Method (the true one and not the one driven by money) says that we must put our thoeries and beliefs to the test by trying to disprove them before they can be confirmed.

That means that you through everything that you have at it, everything that should weaken and distory it, and if it remains then it is if not confirmed then solid and plausible.

However many do not seem to take this apraoch to thier lives. They hear or see something and grab it with both hands, sometimes without even testing it. Then it becomes the corner stone of thier life and anyone who comes along and even says something different is percived as a threat and attacked as such.

Take the example of religion, some are religious others are aithiest. But I have to ask after speaking with both sides, how many have even checked thier facts, how many are just repeating what they have heard someone else say?

Why don't people seek proof anymore (if ever)?

Serious answers only please.

Thanks.

I have tried to seek proof (regarding your example of religion), and when I didn't find any, I was told that I have to just have faith. WTF?
So that was proof enough for me.
Now I take the scientific viewpoint - because that can be proven.

Proof has a way of shattering the fabric of people's lives and leave them vulnerable to things that they would rather be safe in not knowing.
Take your case on religion, if that were ever to be one day be proven that there was no god, then what would the billions of people who have grown up knowing and putting their faith in do with themselves, knowing that their entire lives, they have been praying to someone who didn't exist?

While science is accepted by a lot of people, there is still room for belief in all things, because that is what makes up the Human psyche, and you can't take away what someone believes, no matter how hard you try; for a lot of people, it is the foundation of their lives.

Basically, people are lazy. They take the word of others (the ones they like).

Thinking logically is the hardest work anyone can do. Also the answers to questions of philosophy and the most basic questions of science, none have been proven as yet........and it seems most have been disproven over time.....but are based on the best knowledge at the time they were written....

so it seems that there is no end to our search for truth!

It is easier, and a matter of human nature, to repeat the ideas of someone else and take the shortest path. Seeking proof takes time, effort, and cost.

Look in any mall that has escalators with a set of stairs next to them, and it will be probable that most people take the escalators. Like electricity, electrons seek the path of least resistance.

I have a tendency to agree with you. In todays society people are too lazy to bother to verify anything. If they are told something is right or works they just accept it as so. Even things as important as going to the doctor, how many people actually get a second opinion? As for religion, I am not sure how I feel. Both sides have their points. I am not ready to believe or disbelieve until it is proven indefinitely in my eyes.

You can't use science to prove that science can prove everything so you must use logic.

It is more logical to infer that a personal intelligence pre-exists since ideas exist, and theories, and math which are all connected by mind and are products of existing personality and intelligence.

Your question is mostly meaningless garble. I don't really understand why everyone else thinks they know what it means.
