Can one claim against a vessel owner or his agent(s) when the said vessel is delayed due to breakdown?

If I remember my maritime biz class correct. There is usually a set amount that would be paid out to party as a penalty when the ship is delayed/late. The amount would very depending on the cargo being carried and it would be written into the carriage contract.

It depends on the terms of your charter and commercial contract obligations.

Normally if a bank has a letter of credit or guarantee for the payment or delivery of the goods, they will have take this into consideration.
