Yesterday, in bed and right before sleeping i felt a really strong and surprisingly painful contraction. I am used to contractions - feel them since 4 months preg, but they were not like this one. I breath properly and the contraction took a long while to stop. Today I feel my belly very tense and hurts. Did anyone have painful braxton hicks contractions?? What do you think?

I suggest you contact your maternity department - as I ignored my contractions as braxton hicks and at 20 weeks I was 3cm dialated, and ended up giving birth to a 2lb 11 oz baby at 28.5 weeks
I am not saying this to scare you - just to advise sometimes things need to be checked out and confirmed or occasionally the worse can happen.

Braxton Hicks are different for everyone. They can be somewhat painful. The baby begins to move more at the stage your in and is working on putting itself in a good spot, the baby's room is getting smaller. Since you say your belly feels tense or hard now, I'm sure it's fine. I remember between 25 and 28 weeks having a HUGE growth spurt (baby growth). My belly button felt like it was stretching from the inside and just pulling and tugging and hurting from inside. And my belly button never popped out like alot do. It was just a big growth time for the baby. That's the time your in now. It won't last long, and then trust me on this - myself and everyone I know that has ever had a baby says that the most enjoyable time during pregnancy is the seventh month and beginning of the eighth month. During the seventh month you will have this air about you that is just incredible. It will carry on into your eighth month and then the feeling will fade, not completely, but it begins to get dim. You know the rest from there, I'm sure you've heard it and read it. The thing that I hated the most when I was pregnant was people saying "OH! You'll know when it's time"!!! I always thought to myself, especially a week before I was due with all kinds of strange pains, - What does that mean, I hate that, how will I know? "I have all kinds of pains , they go into my thighs when I sit down" I was told that's nothing! "Oh' You'll know"! Well... now I understand why everyone says that, there's REALLY no other way to say it, REALLY! Enjoy your time coming up, it's the best! You will feel and look better than you ever have. This is truley the best time to enjoy your pregnancy and get excited! And no "harsh" words but "You'll know" when it's time! I wish you the best! You will love being a mother!

Hi! Its funny, I just recently asked this exact same question only two days ago, and im 32 weeks pregnant. It is, indeed those aweful braxton hicks! I went to my doctor, and he said that while some are not painful, some are just as painful as active labor pains! But its normal. I Had mine for about 3 hours like 2 minutes apart! The next day my uterus muscles were so sore! If felt like I had done a million sit ups. I guess you can kind of look at it as your uterus muscles getting in shape for the big day! Even though I think one day of the pain is going to be enough, I dont see why we have to have "practice" rounds. :-) I was in so much pain, I was rolling around and moaning like a dying cow! I couldnt sit, stand, walk, lay....BOY DID IT HURT! And you know what my boyfriend asked me? "do you want some tylenol?" ha ha ha. Like that could even TOUCH the pain. But im rambling, sorry! Just know I feel your pain, and you havnt got too much longer to go. Good luck and congratulations! Feel free to keep in touch

I had a few isolated painful contractions at 6 months whilst sleeping in bed mostly in my back. This was because my baby was lying against my spine. I would'nt worry about the odd one as these are usually harmless. Its when they start to become regular and more painful, then call the labour ward for advice. If you are still concerned, give them a ring anyway and they may get you in for a check and a trace.

It could just be that your baby has moved into an awkward postion...

Or your baby is starting to turn!

My baby's head had engaged at 26 weeks - I honestly thought I was having a prem baby, that's how painful it was.

If you're not sure, consult with your doctor/midwife
