I think we are getting over-sensitive about what should be classed as racism. It depends on the context. Joking around should be acceptable between friends so long as the 'joker' takes into account what is acceptable by the person on the receiving end.
An outsider listening in is not entitled to have an opinion about what is none of his/her business.
In any case having an opinion about what constitutes racism does not make you a racist.

Its all about context, if its someone having a laugh an the person their talking to or about is cool then everyone should take it with a pinch of salt.
If its being said offensively then anyone and everyone has the right to be offended.
My White mates often try an get a rise out of me by talking about my Black and Asian friends when their not around in a derogatory way, I just laugh an tell them they wouldn't have the balls to say it if they were here.
I mean the very question do white people have a right is offensive and racist if you dont understand the context.
But its all good, it just depends on how its being said.
Big ups for the Q, get people thinking dude.

Why do you even refer to this person a 'friend'?!
Its not ok to 'joke around' as you say, and offend you, or anyone else for that matter!
Your 'friend' has some very strange opinions! Who does he think he is telling who should or should not be offended.
Bet he is a generally offensive person, full stop, who nobody likes, people like this should be ignored until they go away.

Everyone has a right to be offended, they can't help the way they feel. It can be very negative however, to keep on moaning to others about how offended one is.
It seems to me that too many people are offended by too little today. The oversensitive people who are so easily offended only hurt themselves and help to foster a society where other people have to watch their every word for fear that they will be pounced on by the politically correct brigade.

White people are just that-people. Do you get offended when you hear homophobic remarks (assuming you are not gay)? Well, I do.
If you and your friend are comfortable with taking gibes at common stereotypes (of each other's races) I think that's a good thing. It means that you've crossed the politically correct line and are really friends.
I have a French (white) friend, who calls me "dark chocolate" sometimes and I have no problem with it because I know him. We can poke innocent fun at each other sometimes. Can't we?

We certainly have the right to offended by "reverse discrimination" and racism on the part of ethnic minorities who practice it.
Woha stop stop .................Just read what Milk.Weed said!
Women are a Minority !!!!!! I have heard it all now, I'll go to our house $#@&^$%#
Women make up 50% of the human population how on earth can they claim to be a minority. Seems to me anyone who does just wants to be seen in an underdog position to gain advantage, never heard anything so stupid in my life.

His audience is everyone who can hear his comments, even if those comments are not intended for them. His intent may be joking, but how they are percieved is all that matter. He needs to realize that the extreme vast majority of white people aren't racist. So, of course they would be offended by his sense of humor.

Everybody has a right to be offended by racism. Recently, at work, I was offended by what a black person said to me. He thought that because he's black, he had the right. Well, I'm a woman, so I too, am a minority, and I was very offended.

Your friend sounds like a racist. Yes, it is OK for anyone to get offended if someone is making a racist joke. That's what keeps racism and hatred alive.
