I also had a grunter in the beginning. He sounded like a little old man when he slept. I actually didn't mind the sounds because then I knew he was still breathing. I used to get nervous when he would be silent for very long periods of time. My son is now almost five months and makes a new variety of noises. Get used to hearing different sounds through your monitor, if you are using one. I have one of the handheld monitors with video. When he is making noises I just hit the button and take a peek at him. It really helps because then I don't have to open the door to his bedroom all the time to check on him. He is a light sleeper and tends to wake up when the door opens. I know some people have negative opinions of the video monitors because some can see other babies on it. We are the only ones in our neighborhood with a baby and don't pick up anyone else.

I suggest that you consult an ENT ( Ear, Nose and Throat ) specialist to rule out problem with your adenoids.
Consult also a Sleep clinic to determine if there is any medical problem causing this one.
Last result when both are normal is psychological problem. You have to rule both of the above first! Some people under too musch stress have problems with sleeping.

oh..i know how your girlfriend feels..my husband is noisy as well. honestly - its out of your control though...you cant help it because you are sort of unconscious. we have tried lots of herbal stuff and nothing works...i just end up on the sofa a lot of the time. like you...he doesnt do it on purpose - he just cant help it. there is an operation you can have to stop snoring..but i wouldnt want to put him through that - & i am sure your girlfriend would feel the same about you!

Clearing your throat with a glass of water before bed and clearing nasal passage too. Both will help breath easier therefore making less noise.

Please get a referral to a sleep clinic ASAP. The wierd sounds could be a sign of sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is very easily treated with the use of a night breathing aid called CPAP, but if it is left untreated, it can damage your heart or even kill you. This should not be ignored.
Contrary to popular belief, people who are not overweight can have apnea.
Even if it is not apnea, the sleep clinic can tell you what it is and how to treat it. Good luck!

maybe its due to smoking? snore sprays do exist, and apparantly they work, but they taste FOUL. the only idea that i can think of is let your girlfriend go to sleep an hour before you and go to bed when she is totally under, the worst thing about sleeping near a snorer is that they STOP you from falling asleep, they rarely wake you up.

Go for laser surgery. They cut away a small portion of soft pallete and sew the ends back together. This will tighten up your soft pallete and stops it blocking your airway.

I tend to divide human health into two categories at the extremes. There's passive aggressive personality disorder (also known as the parasympathetic division - "rest and digest" functions - working without the back-up of the sympathetic division) and there's obsessive compulsive disorder (also known as the sympathetic division being fired a lot, which sends blood to the extremities for fight or flight, but not much is happening around the torso in blood flow). In society, this is represented as anarchy and hierarchy (rule by priests). Our arms and legs are supposed to be the priests of our stomach's need for food without any obvious spiritual reason for our existence. If this sounds harsh, I believe that Christianity is the answer.
Therefore, and I'm just trying to work through this one, you're sleeping quite soundly to the extent of needing to turn off your capacity for fight or flight (or a few other mechanisms that animals use to deal with threat, such as disguise, camouflage, standing stock still to see what's going on etc.). This means that your sympathetic division is not able to do its job. I'm guessing that you're angry with your girlfriend about something but you don't know if you have a right to be. Maybe it's not your girlfriend either. Generally, people get angry because they are being taken away from their sense of family (that which 'grounds' them). Getting angry at your girlfriend isn't going to help either, because it's probably a set of circumstances in play. My best trick for being able to express your anger, and therefore keep your sympathetic division switched on without fear of it getting out of control, is to give food away to the poor without any strings attached. If you want to know what to get angry about in society, giving food away to the poor will tell you what it is. It's many things, but whatever is getting to you will become more obvious if you help somebody else.

The sensible suggestion would be to get her some earplugs. There is no cure for snoring although some things may help.
