I used a birthing ball in the lead up to the birth (for relaxation and helping position the baby) but I didn't use it during birth (although I was looking forward to it - but ended up having an emergency birth). I'm 5'2" and used the standard size. You will probably be more comfortable with a larger ball.

Good luck!

I'm 5'10" also, and I used(planning on using it again here shortly) the 65cm ball. This is the size that the nurse in the childbirth classes recommended to me for my size. She told me that the 65cm ball was plenty big enough to support me and be comfortable. She was right. I bought mine when I was around 25 weeks with baby #1 and it has been great. I started eating dinner while sitting on it at the coffee table when it became uncomfortable to sit at the dining room table. It makes a great exercise tool during and after pregnancy and kids love to play on them, too. When I'm pregnant I let some of the air out so that it isn't as firm, per childbirth class instruction and preference. The ball is very firm when inflated all the way, but letting some of the air out when pregnant makes it easier to balance on and more comfortable for labor positions. That is one purchase I have not regretted. Congratulations and good luck!

I'm only 5 3' and used the birthing ball the hospital had, I have no idea of the size, I am guessing it would have been standard, but it really was an amazing piece of kit!
I would think the larger ball would be best for you as you are so much taller, it will allow you to have feet flat on the floor and not have knees up by your ears!!
I had used one at the gym so was able to find my center of gravity really easily, it is probably a good idea to get some practice in if you haven't used one before.
Good luck.

Are you definitely buying a birth ball and not a gym ball? They are not the same thing. Birth balls tend to be one size, which is 75cm. They can then be inflated more or less to suit the size of the person.
I got my birth ball from the Active Birth Centre www.activebirthcentre.com and they come in one size.

Gym balls are made from a thinner material then birth balls. This means that when you sit on gym balls, they squish down much more and that stops your hips being below your pelvis, which is what birth balls are intended to do. Birth balls also cannot burst, like gym balls can.

I am not sure of the exact size but I know that you want one so that when you sit on it your thigh is parallel to the floor. I am thinking that a 75 is the right size for you, but the only way to know is to blow it up and see. You can adjust the air in them a little, but you may have to take it back and get the next size up.
Birthing Balls are wonderful before, during and after birth!

Good Luck and Congrats!

i'm 5'7" and have the medium and large balls. for labor i would recommend the large ball, you are even taller than me. that large ball supports my weight better too.
