i'm just wondering if the beeping sound that went on for about 5 minutes is a standard way of letting the user know that it is about to crash? i've been having a noise problem with my fan and i suspect/HOPE that by replacing the fan/power supply, it'll turn on again. any ideas about what happened?

thanks :-)

So many things could have gone wrong. If the PC no longer powers on, a new power supply may fix the problem. But if you heard a noise problem with your fan, your CPU may have overheated because the fan was not running at optimal speeds. It could even be bad memory or a bad mother board. I would suggest you take it to a local repair shop and they can plug in a power supply quickly to see if it is just that.

It could be the fan. One thing I'd do is let the pc cool down then try to turn it back on. If it comes on then does it again I'd guess it's the fan. They get really hot easy. Make sure the vents aren't pushed up against or covered by anything.

judging from the noise from the fan, it is not working properly and the reason why the PC died is that the processor probably got burnt/overheated. you will need a new processor and fan. its not the power supply.

If I knew your brand of computer that would be helpful...Possibly it is your power supply. If it was a Dell computer it could possibly be your RAM. Some reason Dell doesn't have virtual memory on some of it's motherboards.

I would try try RAM first if it's a Dell. Then try the power supply
