I recommend GoDaddy for domain registration. I have not used 1and1 so I can't really say much about them. GoDaddy has a great reputation as far as domain names are concerned. They may not be the cheapest, but with something as important as your domain name, you want to avoid any possible complications. They offer automatic renewal and other helpful services.
Recently there was a huge "scandal" involving registerfly, why not go with a company that has a proven track record?
GoDaddy, in my limited opinion is the best for domain name registration for a number of reasons. You can always search for free discount codes online as they almost always have some promotion going on.
Good luck!

I second 1and1.. Why.. Because they are cheap and offer free private domain registration.. Which means when someone looks up your domain they don't get your name, address and phone number.. which could lead to lots of spam.
$5.99 a year
